Activity 1 - Please watch all videos on the Glog and in the discussion section post your thoughts on two of the videos. Use Glog as your subject heading. Then, choose one of the following activities to discuss. Put which Activity number you are discussing in the subject line.
Activity 2- While the 7 Habits may be common sense, they are not always followed. They are principles to lead by and live by. We may think that being proactive makes sense, but when push comes to shove we are reactive to situations where we could have been proactive. Covey in his book on the 7 Habits has an exercise where you think of a situation that is frustrating and think of a way of acting proactively instead of reactively. Think about this in your own life and post a discussion about the situation and how you could react differently than you ordinarily would.
Activity 3 - Habit 2 is about making a mission statement, either personal, school, classroom, or family. What is the mission statement of your school or library?
Activity 4 - Discuss if you have had a leadership school experience and what worked or didn't work in that experience.
Activity 5- Habit 3 is about putting first things first, basically time management. How do you manage your time in the library or in the classroom. Have you found a system that works particularly well for you? Please share in the discussion area the time management system you use.
Activity 6- Think win-win is habit 4. This is a very important skill in the library where there are so many things going on at the same time. Discuss a time where you changed a win-lose situation to win-win.
Activity 7- Habit 5 is seek first to understand then be understood. This is one of the most difficult habits to do since we always think in terms of our wants and being heard first. But this habit is so vital to being a good leader. Is there a time in your life where you stopped yourself from interjecting your thoughts and really listened to what someone else had to say and it changed your perspective on things?
Activity 8- Habit 6 is synergy. This is where you listen to what the other person has to say, they listen to you, and you come up with an idea that you would not have thought of alone. You are open to ideas from others, and you can take those ideas and tweak them until they fit both of your ideals for the situation. Do you have a synergistic relationship with someone? Can you come to someone and bounce ideas off them and come up with something even better?
Activity 9- Habit 7 is sharpen the saw. How do you take care of yourself?
